INVOLVING YOUNG PEOPLE IN ENDING TRAFFICKING
The ECPAT-USA Youth Committee provides a mechanism for youthful voices to participate in our mission of ending the commercial sexual exploitation of children through advocacy and policy impact. We teach local area youth how to be activists, and make a difference in the areas of human rights and children’s rights, as well as the issue of the commercial sexual exploitation of children.
Every year, ECPAT-USA works with New York City high school students to advocate in their communities. We supply the children with the resources and tools that they need to undertake a project of their own design. Past project have ranged from creating and displaying a mural that was incorporated into flyers and postcards to be passed out to a video project aimed at teaching other youth to be wary of pimps and the exploitative world of child sex trafficking.
If you are a current student at the Prospect Heights High School, you may apply to the 2012 Youth Committee by clicking here.
Last year the students decided upon a poster project, in which numerous posters were hung up around the Lower East Side of Manhattan in an effort to create awareness of the issue. The four posters are shown below.
